Scheels Plans New Meridian Store

Scheels, a North Dakota-based company that owns 30 All Sports Stores, announced Monday that it plans to open its first in Idaho. Known for their Ferris Wheels INSIDE of their stores, Scheels intends to open a new store in Ten Mile Crossing in Meridian.
The new store will fill a massive 240,000 square foot space. It will also feature a saltwater aquarium that's filled with more than 600 fish, a wildlife mountain, plus a candy shop. The new Scheels store will be one of the largest retail stores in the Treasure Valley.
This location will offer video game simulators and arcade games, and a variety of specialty shops. Idaho Scheels, the new store's name, also will sell footwear, fashion, and other sporting goods, completing an inventory of one million goods. Let’s not forget that there are plans for an in-house restaurant featuring coffee, homemade fudge, soups, and sandwiches.
Scheels anticipates the store will open in 2024 and will employ more than 400 people. The company has been looking for a Boise location for years and Ten Mile Crossing, just off I84, was a perfect location for the new store. Boise will become Scheels’ 33rd location.
Frederick A. Scheel, a German immigrant, started the company from his $300 profit from his first potato harvest. That profit was the down payment on a small store in Minnesota. Frederick is the great-great-grandfather of current CEO Steve Scheels.
Founded in 1902, Scheels has opened stores in surrounding areas, like Fargo, North Dakota - where the corporate offices are currently located. The company also expanded its reach by adding sports lines, which is now the focus of Scheels. The employee-owned company employs more than 8,000 workers in stores across North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Nevada, Illinois, Utah, Kansas, Colorado, and Texas.
