Host a Virtual Celebration for Your 2020 Graduates

With all kinds of limitations being placed on live ceremonies and gatherings right now, it’s hard to celebrate this significant milestone this year! Don’t let the moment slide by without anything special to commemorate the occasion! If you’re ready to take the party online, there are simple (and very budget-friendly) ways to celebrate with your graduates - even if there has to be some distance.
Pick Your Platform
There are SO many platforms to help you host your gathering online! You can choose from Zoom, Google Hangouts, or even the Houseparty app, amongst others. Consider who you’ll be inviting when choosing your platform. For example, how tech-savvy are they? Do you plan to invite a small group of people or a larger group of acquaintances? Knowing this in advance will help you choose the best platform since there may be additional charges for the number of guests you’re expecting.
Send Invitations
Once you know how you’re going to host your virtual party, invite people! Whether you’re sending a calendar invite, text message, Facebook event, or even a fun invite you’ve designed on Paperless Post, you’ve got to tell people what’s happening!
TIP: Since bringing gifts to the graduate might be difficult, this is a great opportunity to link to an Amazon Wish List or share their Venmo/CashApp/PayPal for anyone who may wish to gift cash for the occasion.
Set Up Your Party
Make sure to put your camera device (cell phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) at eye-level and in a well-lit location. Use a creative background - Zurchers is offering curbside pickup for balloon decor that shows up great on a screen! Signs by Tomorrow - Boise can also make a sign for indoors or outdoors that would make an excellent background for your virtual celebration!
Other options with items you may already have at home: Set up a table to display their diploma, some photos, or other special items that you might expect at a traditional graduation party! Or, find a favorite photo to make your Zoom background.
You can even schedule live virtual entertainment! Check out the list of available virtual performers on sites like The Bash to provide music, caricatures, comedy, or magic!
Just Celebrate!
These milestones don’t come often. Celebrate them however you can! If virtual isn’t your style, set up a drive-by parade for the occasion! Get the graduate’s favorite cake or dessert - Emmeli’s Cake or Amaru Confections Bakery in Boise have plenty of options that you can have delivered or picked up for the occasion. Order their favorite meals-to-go and have a socially distanced outdoor gathering. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments.
