When all of summer’s typical activities get canceled left and right, there has to be somewhere the whole family can go, right?! Luckily, Boise is full of outdoor (and a few indoor) activities that will still allow your family to safely social distance but still get out of the house. The Treasure Valley offers residents (and visitors) plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy these warm summer days in plenty of safe ways.
Into History?
The Old Idaho Penitentiary is open to visitors! Come in to learn more about prisons in the West and some of their most notorious criminals. The site is following all local laws, including the required use of masks at all times in all indoor and outdoor areas. Admission is self-guided and pre-purchasing your tickets is suggested as they are limiting guests to 50 people per hour.
Want to Get on the Water?
Load up for a visit to Shoshone Falls! For only $5 per car, there’s so much natural beauty to explore at “The Niagara of the West.” There’s plenty of space for hiking, picnicking, and playing. Bring your kayaks, canoes, paddleboards - whatever you have! Shoshone Falls offers a beautiful view all along the Snake River.
Day Trip Out of Town?
Or, if getting out of town and into nature is more your speed, pack up and head to Bruneau Dunes State Park. The $5 park fee can get you a whole day of great outdoor experiences. Head approximately 65 miles south of Boise to enjoy fishing, boating, wildlife, and plenty of playtime in nature. They also have an observatory to enjoy the night sky - contact the park to confirm which evenings it will be open to the public!
Adventure Seekers?
Go all out and fly through the trees at Zip Idaho! Take the Turkey 2000 and fly down a 2030 foot long zipline that will get your heart racing! Then, enjoy two more zip lines that will have you hanging high above the ground and enjoying the beautiful scenery at the same time. They’re following strict social distancing guidelines and disinfecting between each group to follow all local guidelines. It’s a great afternoon for the adrenaline junkies!
