June 12th is National Record Store Day, and it's a perfect day (they’re also repeating it in July) to check out your Boise's locally owned record shops! The holiday was first recognized in 2007 by a gathering of record store owners and since then, the day has become more widely recognized on a global level. Did you know that the Boise area has independent record stores? These brick-and-mortar locations offer more than just access to your favorite tunes; you'll find vinyl, discs, and other band-related merchandise.

Check out these local shops around Boise on June 12th! As always, check with each location for any need-to-know information around events and COVID-19 precautions.

The Record Exchange

1105 West Idaho Street Boise, Idaho 83702

As Idaho's largest independent music store, The Record Exchange is a popular location for picking up vinyl from your favorite artists and bands. Carrying more than just records, you can find clothing, candles, incense, stickers, and so much more. Not to mention, they're also home to Boise's first espresso bar. Plus, if you're looking to sell your collection of records, cassettes, or CDs - they're buying!

Modern Sounds Vinyl and Music

556 S Vista Ave, Boise, Idaho 83705

This small family-owned shop is new to Boise (opened December 2019), but they continue to grow and add to their record inventory daily. Every review positively mentions the staff, AND they have a $2 Record section if you're looking for deals.

Idaho Vinyl Records

524 Cleveland Blvd, Caldwell, ID 83605

If you're looking for rare and eclectic vinyl, look no further than Idaho Vinyl Records. This small shop is always looking for classic rock, soul, and jazz records, but you can always find some strange and cool vinyl in stock!

Disc-Cover Records

1224 1st Street South, Suite 202, Nampa, ID 83651

Searching for a deal on some new records? Disc-Cover frequently offers discounts and deals for their growing inventory. If you're a frequent shopper, make sure to ask about their loyalty program. While in-store, you can also check out audio equipment, record players - if you're in need, and locally made jewelry.

This year's Record Store Day Ambassador is musician/comedian/actor/writer Fred Armisen, who you might recognize from Saturday Night Live. Get out and celebrate some of your favorite local record stores this month - you never know what you might find!
